Help! My front axle housing is cracked! What years are swappable? (AWD front end)

The origional one had a sealer. It was weird feeling, almost wax like.
I'm glad you mentioned it. What's the difference? I only used RTV black because its what I had. I also used it to seal the transfercase.
Should I take it apart? How do you use the anaerobic sealer stuff and why would it be better than silicone?
