Help 9.5 14 bolt swap?
#11
Very few were offered as a special option and even harder to find than the already hard to find drum axles out of a VHO or SS. After calling about 10 yards in the Orlando area I found one with drums 50 miles away out of an 06 for 1100 but they have to have it shipped from somewhere else for an additional 200.00 and still not sure if it is going to be the right one. Guy said it was 3.73 with 9.5 AXN out of a 1500 xtra cab but not sure the exact model.

I have read about the tru tracks and alot of people having good results with those in a 8.6 10 bolt. My problem isnt really with the axles, the housing must be flexing from the power im making with the nitrous and the first two times the ring and pinion lost a lot of teeth but in both cases my yukon posi unit survived. This time the inner housing cracked from what my mechanic explained to me which must have been from the wheel hop and why I was getting so much vibration under acceleration for the past few weeks. I think the gears and yukon posi are still OK but he quoted me 500.00~ to replace the inner housing that everything rests in if I want to keep the 8.6. I really dont know at this point, maybe I will just have him fix it and throw an after market differential cover on there for a little more strength but just hate to waste money like this.

I've got a drum brake 14 bolt 3.73 w/ locker that is out of a 99 4wd that I paid 450.00 for. I was going to make my own bracket to mount the stock disc brakes to. That is the cheapest way out for a stout rear. I've since decided to go with a narrowed moser 12 bolt to tuck some 12'' wide wheels. I don't know what the 14 bolt goes for in other parts of the country but I would let mine go for what I paid but it's the shipping that would get ya. Prob 150. to 200.00.

wheel hop is gonna kill a 14 bolt too. fix the wheel hop and a 10 bolt will take all kinds of abuse. look what flaco put one through. i'll bet money your not making the power he is. invest in some cal-tracs if you haven't already.

The damage to his 10-bolt has already been done. It sounds like the wheel hop has probably bent the housing. Fixing the wheel hop with a bent housing might not help. When you were having the rear rebuilt, did they ever pull it out of the truck and check to see if it's straight?

I would definately go with a 14 bolt. I went through 3 10 bolts before I finally bought one. The flexing of the housing kills them.
I bought my 05 14 bolt for $650. I believe all of them came with drums and the 3.73 ratio. My 10 bolt brakes bolted up to the 14 bolt.
