GVW Help please
#1
I have a 06 ECSB Vortec Max with the B4V package 3.73's and a 4L65E and 20" wheels. The GVW is 6200 lbs. What I would like to know is the other Vortec Max package, the NHT version. What does the door sticker say for GVW on it. With my version of the Vortec Max (same as the SS) it says (depending on what GM literature you read) I can trailer 7800 lbs. The NHT version can tow 10,400 lbs. The only difference between these two trucks is my B4V has a 4L65E tranny, 3.73 gears and no adjustable shocks (has traction control) and 20" wheels. The NHT truck has a 4L70E tranny, 4.10 gears and adjustable shocks. and 20" wheels are not available. I can't see that the NHT truck can pull 2600 lbs. more just because of the 4.10's and the 4L70E unless the GVW is higher. Could someone with an ECSB (not a 4 door) NHT version of the Vortec Max please get back to me with what your GVW sticker says (it's on the drivers door).
Thanks
Jim
Thanks

70e is just a **** hair away from being a 65e same ratios so thats not the diff main diff is the gear ratio but even so I wouldnt worry about that oyu have the same brakes as the NHT so I wouldnt think twice about towing 10K. The HEAVY factory 20s will a have a pretty big effect on braking but not 2500#s worth.

Thanks for the reply. I agree that my truck should pull close to the same weight but It's the GVWR sticker on the drivers door that the DOT guys at the scales will be looking at. My enclosed car hauler weighs 8000 lbs. loaded and If my axles exceed the rating they get a little upset and start writing tickets. There have been a lot of dough heads wrecking their rigs pulling motor homes that were too heavy or not hooked up properly and the DOT and police are checking more small trucks pulling all types of trailers a little closer now. I was just wondering if the springs were the same. I know they both use 6 lug axles so I don't think there is much difference. One weird thing though. When I ordered my truck I couldn't get a hitch package with the 20" wheels UNLESS! I ordered leather interior or the LT package
I just ordered the kit later and I saved $150.00 and installed it myself. Anyway how about you guys with the NHT package. What does the GVW sticker on your door say???
Thanks

It's not that the 20's are heavier that causes the problem, it's probably that they are much weaker then the stock 17" wheels. If you read the manual it also says that you cannot use the 20" rims (any of them) on anything other then a paved road.

GVW is the weight rating is of the truck combined with what you have in the bed = your payload.6200 minus lets say truck wt.4800LBs =1400 pay load.CGVW would be load truck with trailer.I should look at my GVW sticker.I would have thought your 06 would have had the M70 which is what I can tell is better shafts and possible OE vette servo.

I know all about the Gross weight thing. I just want to know what it says on the sticker of an NHT equipped ECSB VMax. My GM guide tells me the NHT equipped truck (ECSB) can pull 10,400lbs. and the B4V truck (mine) will only pull 7800 lbs. The only difference between these two trucks is the NHT has 4L70, 4.10 gears and ride control. You can't put 20" wheels on as an option. My truck has B4V with 4L65E, 3.73's, traction control and 20's. and there is a 2600 lb. difference in the towing capacity??? Is it because GM doesn't trust the 20's with the higher load?? This is one of those questions you just can't get an answer to. I've asked three local GMC and Chevy truck dealers and all I get is I think it might be this or that but not sure. I think if the GVRW sticker on the door is a lot higher and the suspension, frame and brakes are the same then it has to be the factory ordered 20's that is the reason.
