Goes into 4wd on its own

03 1500 GMC will jump into 4 high when you slow or come to a stop. Has over 250k miles but never hard off roaded. Push button 4X4, 5.3, 4l60e.

Is if actually going into 4hi or is the button just being stupid? Have seen many of the 4wd switches go bad and play hell on the encoder motor, do you have a way to pull transfer case and engine/trabs codes?
