Default Gear box seal failed, help

Anyone ever have the sector shaft seal massively fail on them? Guaranteed to drain all your fluid in 2 seconds flat!

I didnt get 10 feet out of a parking spot before the seal blew apart and I lost all fluid. One big disadvantage of hydroboost, if the power steering fails, you are out of brakes.

Any ideas what could cause this? I replaced the seal a year ago when it started leaking, and havent had any trouble until today.

How did you stop? Throw it in park? Emergency brake?

There should have been brakes, just no power assist.

In my personal experience i have never seen one blow out completely like that. Only thing i could think of is it 1 worked its way out or 2 pressure blew it out...interesting.

All braking systems have some sort of backup pressue device. Hydroboost units have a pressurized gas canister on the side which gives you enough built up pressure to make 3 full speed stops from 60mph with a complete loss of the primary system. Luckily I wasnt going very fast and had plenty of brake.

I am replacing the seal today to get me home, but should I be looking for a new gear box?
