I would save up for the Eaton....or a Detroit Trutrac. If you're tired of the single tire fire, I think you'll be disappointed with the G80. It's very unpredictable and not as strong as a Eaton or Trutrac.

The word around here is that the G80 can be smoked even with hard driving on a stock configuration. Mine has held up for 50k (knock on wood), but if and when it does puke, I'm going for an Eaton (unless I win some sort of lottery or a long lost uncle leave me a chunk of cash...then I'm doing it sooner )

yeah save for an eaton or detroit true trac. if you can get a G80 for $100, a true trac is only 400 bucks from summit racing. you dont want to get a G80 in the back of your truck only to have it blow up and take out your gears as well. that'll be exspensive...

G80's suck, it's ok off road at slower speeds, but on the street it sucks.

if you allready had a g80 I would say keep it till it gives it up, but don't spend a penny to install one. I've seen the entire case split in half! Don't want that.

I agree the G80 sucks, but I would say the opposite on where it "works"... slow speed off-road it's hard to get a Gov-Lok to engage because of the 100 RPM diff. in wheel speed to get it to engage. Riding the brakes can get it to engage sooner, but a true locker would be better. My old lifted ZR2 had the 8.5"/G80 and it really only locked up in the mud where you could get some wheelspin.

On the street, that 100RPM diff. is easily surpassed when your wailing on your truck. Just hammer it and you feel the "clunk" a split second later, but keep doing that and the Gov-Bomb will grenade sooner or later. On my Z71, the G80 works pretty good on the street, but it's longevity is questionable.

BTW, didn't Parish run the factory 8.5"/G80 combo for a quite a while w/ no probs.?
