Front wheel bearing prices...
#1
Ok, I know some of you have probably had one or both of your front wheel bearings replaced. One of mine has been going out for a while, and the noise(not to mention the fear of locking up that front left tire on the highway...) is gettin to me. How much can I expect to pay to replace it? Is it best to replace both at once?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Be sure to replace the outer race's also. If the bearing is going bad it will at least distort the race even though you may not be able to see it. as for grease, use some that has some petroleum in it. the pure synthetic grease doesn't have any, and thats what you need to keep the seals soft so they don't leak.

Are they really that easy to replace? I've done some work on my cars, but I've never messed with any bearings. What, do they just go on and off with a couple bolts? What is the race? bearing noobie here...

The tapered part with the rollers and cage on it is the inner race. the part that they fit into is the outer race or "cup" when you buy the bearing be sure to get the cup, then with it in your hand you'll see how all the parts go together.
