Default front bumpstop suppose to always touch?

ive only owned straight axle trucks before this one... IFS is new to me... my front bump stops are constantly touching above and im pretty sure this is why i have a crappy ride... truck looks to sit level... so im guessing the torsion bars are cranked way to far... is there a kit that will level my 4x4 truck without the torsion bars cranked up... so my bump stops arnt always in contact and im not riding every bump in the road through my spine... most all i see is just replacement torsion bars and stuff... thanks!

Cognito makes control arm leveling kits.

Your bumpstops are supposed to be touching. Torsion suspensions are linear and not progressive, so the bumpstop gives the feel of having a progressive suspension. That's how they come from the factory.

How far away should bumpstops be on non torsion bar trucks?

It's not even called a bumpstop. It's called a compression stop. Like the guys above said, it's an active part of the suspension. Usually they are not quite touching all the time. Alot of trucks start out with about a 1/16" gap, but as your torsion bars wear out over time the front end starts to sag and they will be in contact all the time.

Having said that, I've seen quite a few posts around where guys have pulled them out and found they were significantly compressed and had lost alot of there elastomeric qualities. Don't know how old your truck is or how many miles but it's entirely possible that your bars are sagging and your compression stops are bad.

To start with you could crank your bars a little bit until you have a small gap between the control arm and the compression stop. You could also pop them out and compare them from one side to another to see if there is a height difference.

And to answer your other question, no, there is no other way to level a NBS 4x4 other than cranking/keys. Other than lowering the rear, lawl.

yep, the jouncer(GM's name for the bump stop) should just be kissing(barely touching) the lower control arm.
