Default freakin brake caliper fell the hell off...

I was driving down the road today and tapped the brakes and heard a TERRIBLE grinding sound, and it felt like the front right of the truck locked up. I pulled over to a gas station and checked the drivers side and everything looked fine. Then to the passenger side and the damn caliper was sitting straight up verticle, had to be grinding on the wheel what I heard. It felt like one of the bolts was still in so I just pushed it back down over the rotor and drove it back home. Hopefully one of the bolts just backed out and I can fit it easily. That **** was scary as hell being as its been typhoon type rain here all day long. rant over...Anyone have this happen before?

I know someone had this happen, but I just looked for 20 minutes and hell if I can find it. they had their caliper bust their aluminum wheel, so you came off lucky!

hell yeah, if it had broken my wheel I probably would have gone off the edge last night. I'm going to drive it over to the shop in an hour or so and pull it apart and see whats up. Hopefully its just a bolt that backed out... wonder if autozone or orileys sells just the caliper bolt.

aanyone know the thread/pitch/size of the caliper bracket bolts? The top one one the passenger side front brake is gone. theres a nice gouge in my alum. wheels where the caliper was dragging along it all the way home last night and back here this morning. Once I get that bish back in there its red loc-tite and torque wrench ftw.

fixed it... found some 14mmx35 2" grade 8 bolts, went ahead and used 4 to replace all of them up front as well as some loc-tite. Put them in, torqued to 150ft.lbs and took a test drive, feels fine now. Now my only concern is the small grove that the caliper ground into the inside of the wheel. It isn't deep enough to have penetrated, and the tire isn't deflating. You guys think I'll have any grief over that small grove?

Haha now I'm infamous. My local hardware stores never did have the right bolt. I had to wait for the dealer to be open. Like I said in my pm, sorry for not getting back sooner BTW, nice you got it fixed with realtively little headache.

Broken wheel=suck. I now have a corvette instead.
