Default fragmented torque convertors

Is there any kind of problem with the t/c breaking up anymore? On our 92 suburban we went through about 4 trannies. Everytime the t/c would break apart and the pieces would go through the tranny and destroy it. On the last two they even went into the t/c and fully welded the fins, but it didn't really help. We always had the tranny work done by circle D which I'm pretty sure has a good reputation. It had 210,000 miles on it when we sold it. On the other hand, my 94 sierra with a 350 tbi and the original tranny with the original fluid is still going strong with its 4l60e with 185,000 miles.
