Default FLT tranny and converter

I received my FLT tranny w/converter last week and swapped it in last night. In my haste to get it in, I forgot to top off the TC with fluid. Does anyone know if they get shipped with enough fluid in them not to worry?

Nobody answered the phone today (at FLT) and I can just call them tomorrow anyway. I just didn't want to waste time pulling the tranny back down, if i don't have to.

Thanks.

I am going to bet 95% of your tranny shops fire everything dry, with the tires off the ground dump in 4-5 quarts in the fill tube, fire it put it in reverse and let the tires roll while pouring another 5-6 quarts, then run it through all the gears and then start checking the level.Would be best if you had someone start it and put it in rev. so you can start pouring the second it fires.

DO NOT FILL YOUR TRANS IN GEAR!! Any time you fill a 4l60e fill it in park. Start with 4-5 quarts of dexron III fire it up put five quarts in it and then start checking the fluid level. When you think it's full then get into the vehicle and do some forward to reverse engagements. Then check the oil level again. If full then it's safe to run it through the gears. Top off after doing this and then time for the road test. If have it in gear when filling the transmission you can hurt or slip a clutch pack.

difference of opinion.years in a tranny shop that is how we did it.with the tires off the ground there is no load and your not slipping the clutches

I will go out on a limb and say FLT will tell him not to pull the trans,go ahead and fire it.Anyone here have a real GM late OE service manual? Would be interesting to see what they say about converter fill and trans start up proceedure.

your tans had fluid ran through because FLT puts there trans on there tester machine, to makesure everything is up to par, and broken in. then im pretty sure they drain as much of the fluid as possible, b4 they ship it.

as for the TC i dont think they put in any fluid in it.

also, i think FLT will probably agree with da wrench on it. sounds more of a safer method.

I know yank is the same way.And I did mine. I want to know what GM says.Surely nothing wrong with it I am just wondering how many of the people that do it for a living, add fluid.
