FLT Drivability
#1
As I posted below, my tranny died after I tried to drive it with almost no fluid (89K miles on a stock 4L60e and most of that with a Maggie, so I can't complain). So I'm looking for a replacement. I like the FLT Level 3, but I notice they install the Transgo shift kit. From what I have read these kits produce very harsh shifts. Is this true with FLT's as well? I don't do the track anymore, and since the truck is a DD, I don't want neck snapping shifts, but don't insist on silky smooth either. I will be reinstalling the stock converter (not what is in the truck now) and replacing the 4.8 with a 6.0. Who would be a good person to talk to at FLT about my needs?

Call Chuck @ FLT and discuss it with him. He will set ip up exactly the way you want it. I consider mine firm. I bark the tires during 1-2 shift. It is a little firm for daily driving but it is the way I like it overall. He can make it as firm as you want.

Call them. They will hook you right up.
I installed the HD2 shift kit in mine before my transmission took a ****. I put in 1 washer. FLT usually sets up there trannies with 1 washer.
1 washer is enough to make it a really firm 1-2 shift. 2 washers is when its a harsh shift.
I'm sure you can request for them to put in 0 washers.
ah.. I can't wait to get my FLT in!

Same here I love my FLT. If you keep your foot out of it shifts are not harsh at all. I would also consider getting at least a level 4 since the cost over the Level 3 is minimal. Especially if you are planning on upgrading to a 6.0L

Well, yesterday I talked to Chuck at FLT. Great guy and very knowledgeable, but man he could sell popsicles to polar bears.
Anyway he talked me into getting a Level 5 (4L65e) along with a new beefed-up converter (back to stock stall this time). Hopefully this should handle the output of a blown 6.0 OK for my application.
Next is to order the 6.0.
Edit: Done!
Well, OK I'm

if daily driveability is a concern, get the vaccum modulator installed when they build it. Its only about a ~$120 upgrade IIRC and it will make driving that thing a dream...I have it on my level 5 4L65E from them.
