Default First Post...tranny removal story

Hey guys. Been lurking for years. Had an experience removing my trans from truck and I figured I would pass it along and maybe somebody will learn from my fun.

Pulling 4L60E out of 2001 Tahoe 4x4 for Chuck (formerly FLP) to rebuild. Nice convenience...when he moved from Naperville, he moved to a building about 1/4 mile away from my office. How convenient. He seems like a super nice and knowledgeable guy.

Anyhow. Everything removed but cannot separate trans from engine. Used pry bars, hammer, grabbing tailshaft, and nothing would get it to budge. Soaked it in penetrant overnight but it still would not budge.

I finally used a sling from the trailer hitch to the tran pan. I ratcheted up some tension and began tapping around the rusted alignment studs and after about 12 taps it finally broke free. Heavy rust embedded in the top half of the bellhousing. You'd think a coat of anti-seize would be in order on the aluminium to iron surface.

Nice to see the truck section growing. I consider myself a decent wrench but I have learned quite a bit from you guys. Great site.
