I think they quit making the 2 piece steel driveshafts in 02 and went to a one piece aluminum there after. Could be wrong though.

I had a 2005 ecsb and she had a 2 piece drive shaft. Thats why I was a lil bumfuzzled when I was under my 2011 the other day and only saw a huge aluminum 1 piece drive shaft. I was thinking...maybe its because I bought a base model work truck, i dont know.

So has anyone done the 2 pc to 1 pc swap yet? I just measured mine with the 4l80, and it's 86.5" from tailshaft end to the center line of the rear pinion yoke! That's pretty dang long. I'm calling up DSS tomorrow morning and see what they can do. I'm hoping to go with a 4" AL tube for clearance purposes, but if they can't do it I'll have to go with the 5". With the 5" it would be a very tight fit to my Corsa muffler (its huge), and of course the center crossmember as well once dropped. Those issues will be addressed later if they arise.

BUMP

This has been in my head lately. Is it worth/stronger/better to switch to a 1pc over a 2pc?

I've torn up 2 carrier bearing already and the last one was so bad it spun on the shaft and tore it up some. If it happens again I may have to make a decision.

Thoughts on the subject?

I haven't heard of the carrier being the problem. I would go to a 1 piece but at Ex cab length it would require a 5" diameter and with my drop that would require a serious notch on the underbed crossmember.

You're asking for trouble with a one piece that long. There's a reason Denny's won't build one to those specs.... Doesn't matter if it's 6" in diameter, the forces acting on the center of that shaft spinning that kind of speed is a scary thought. There's a reason iamkeniff went to a two piece in place of his factory one piece... IMO, keep what you have and don't mess with it. If you're having problems with it, fix the problem. Don't redesign something that's been proven to work.
