I left a lite, barked 1-2, then 2-3. Bang!!! Real violent-like. My input shaft snapped & wedged in case in my 89 w/. a built 4l60E. Bye-bye $2000 tranny. My rear was a G80, & I think rear was on its way out to begin. After the rear cover was pulled, it was shot too. It has sat ever since.

FWIW, it was so difficult to remove driveshaft, I had to remove straps for u-jts. That didn't get it; I carefully took off caps w/. needle bearings. Not fun.

When it 1st happened, I thought great, 2 wks. pass, & another built 60e toasted. Someone said check rear. I did. So, what is morale of my story?

I'm more efficient than most, & just blow all my **** up at once. And then struggle to pay to fix it.

thats what happened.

I pulled the diff cover off...nothing exciting.

I cant get the damn driveshaft out either

The output shaft wont turn no matter how hard I try. I'll pull the pan later, and the trans will eventually be coming out.

this sucks doing this crap on my garage floor.

I am taking pictures so you guys will have some awesome carnage pics (hopefull not too awesome)

even though it sounds like it's your tranny, all this talk about that damned G80 makes me skeered I haven't replaced mine yet. Too broke at the moment haha. And being a manual means it gets hit that much harder when hammering on it. There needs to be a magic TruTrac fairy to gimme one haha.

Did u try pulling u joint straps off, like said? Or next step was, the cups w/. needle bearings removed.Don't drop cups, or you're S.O.L.! Beyond that I don't know how you'll get d/s removed. And I hope I never have to go beyond those steps if it ever occurs again.
This is reason I'm thinkin if/ when I do a built tranny for my 04, I 'm gettin the nice input/ output shaft upgrades. If I can afford it. Garage floor tranny work sucks. It's 1 of the biggest reasons I want a lift. Oh ya, a garage & house to go w/. it too.

Let us know how it goes.

If I had a manual, I'd be doin a TrueTrac earlier than what I've got planned now. Give the magic TrueTrac fairy my #. And the FLT fairy too - I need a built 60e for my 89, & another ***** out 1 for the 04. Since it'll see more power.

Talk is cheap. But in this case, for Mark, it wouldn't have been.

I am NOT pulling the f'ing u-joints apart.

the tranny is coming out, hopefully I will be able to wiggle it around and lower it enough to slide the shaft out.

The driveshaft is supposed to telescope in and out of the tailhousing of the ttranny, buts its frozen in place.

I just pulled the pan, fluid is clean but theres metal chunks and stuff.

pictures coming soon.
