Default Drum to disc brakes on Chevy 1500

I have a 05 GMC Sirerra with drum rear brakes, I have a complete rear end out of a 03 Silverado with the factory disc brakes I also have the parking brake cables (was told there different for the disc brakes,) is there anything else I'll need to do the conversation?

why would you want to do that?

I had an '03 with discs all around, it sucked compared to the '05. With stainless lines I stop way more reliably than that '03.

I live in a fairly mountainous area and never had a problem with fading. When I first got the truck I was like why'd they do that? Disc does look better.

Some day I'll put big brakes on it but for now I have the 03 rear end with the disc brakes on it and according to NAPA 05 it was a option disc or drum, the master cylinder and everything Is the same part number so I'm going to try to swap it out this weekend when I lower it.

The only issue you might incounter is the rear disck locking up in a hard brakeing situation. This is because the ABS module is calibrated differntly with rear drums. I looked into it a little bit but could not figure out how we could possibly correct the callibrations.

In 05 they went to larger front disc when they went to drums in the rear...

in the units from 99-04 there smaller up front and use a single piston in the rear.

Suv's had a dual piston rear calipers to compensate for the added weight.

The simple answer was to use an adjustable valve on the rear brake line to control the rear brakeing bias...
