As soon as I can get my computer tuned I will probably get a crowd to go.

Everything was a perfect swap for bolting up. You just have to use short cab to short cab or extcab to extcab rear-ends because the park brake cables are different lenghts. Haven't driven it yet to see if it needs anything to balance the braking from front to rear. Probably will need a proportional valve and a residual valve in the line to the rear.
The fricken 2005 & up drum brakes are a poor design.
I would do anything to have rear discs!!!
The problems I've been having and still have are rediculous.
I would never tell anyone to even think about swapping to the drums.

Your trucj ha sthe 14 bolt rear, the other guys doesnt. I would think that you would have larger rear brakes, but not sure.

The 99-04 rear discs are a truly horrible design, thats why GM dropped them. esp. for anywhere that gets salt on the roads.

I think G.M dropped the disc and went to drum to save alittle money, and then they could offer a famliy type plan to get the trucks with the cheap rear brakes to sell. (very well, it seams everyone bought a 05, I did.) But it works out very nicely for people like 67SS509, he swaps the rear-end and gets to run smaller rims on his go fast truck, plus gets better brakes on the DD. This is how I think it is and have no facts to back it up so......................

Gm droped the rear discs because of the bad disc design, they were having huge warranty concerns with them, the parking brake woudl stick on, or if teh truck was driven a few feet the parking brake shoes(inside the drum of the rotor on the rear) would loose all of their friction surface.
Gm saved somemoney when they dropped the reardiscs allright, they took that money and put it into the stronger 2005 front brakes.
They didnt pass the savings down to the customer, they reinvested it into the fronts.

We'll have to see how teh new rear disc design is on teh new trucks, I bet they have spend lots of time to try and get it right this time, hopefully they have learned from their mistakes.

Knock on some friggin wood, But I have almost 13,000mi on my 04' with 4 wheel discs and have had zero problems with braking, warpage, or any e-brake related problems.

I have read multiple accounts where the discs keep warping and the dealer has no fix so I do think there is some weight to what Hog is saying but I seem to recall the new drums being a huge PITA also.

Is there something the 99-04 guys can do to make sure that does not happen or just maintain the brakes the best you can and upgrade to wilwood or baer when you can afford it??
