Default dropping the trans pan ??

i just changed the fluid and filter on my 99 gmc sierra 5.3/4l60e and i could not for the life of me get the pan down. it gets stuck on the y-pipe.

has anyone gotten it down before? if so how?

i really woud like to get it down so next time i change it i can use a new gasket too. it looks like i have to drop the y to do it though and with my luck i will end up snapping an exhaust stud and ruininng my day. and it IS the deeper stepped pan, but i dont think that matter cuz it gets hung up on the shallow part anyway.

i always had to drop the y-pipe to drain my trans, until i got a hughes performance trans pan that has a dran plug and a magnet, but still gotta drop the pan and y-pipe to change the filter. good luck!

I ran into this as well. Advice I got from a friend at work who does wrenching on the side is to loosen the transmission mount and jack it up with a floor jack.

I haven't done it yet, but sounds like it will work......and no worries about snapping exhaust bolts >.<
