dropping the trans pan ??
#1
i just changed the fluid and filter on my 99 gmc sierra 5.3/4l60e and i could not for the life of me get the pan down. it gets stuck on the y-pipe.
has anyone gotten it down before? if so how?
i really woud like to get it down so next time i change it i can use a new gasket too. it looks like i have to drop the y to do it though and with my luck i will end up snapping an exhaust stud and ruininng my day. and it IS the deeper stepped pan, but i dont think that matter cuz it gets hung up on the shallow part anyway.

no i was able to change the filter, i just prefer to clean the pan and change tha gasket while i have it apart. and my stock pan has a drain plug (although someone rounded it off so i need to find the part nuumber the replacement).

I ran into this as well. Advice I got from a friend at work who does wrenching on the side is to loosen the transmission mount and jack it up with a floor jack.
I haven't done it yet, but sounds like it will work......and no worries about snapping exhaust bolts >.<
