we unbolted the one from my buddies truck and it just slid off. may have tapped it with a hammer but i know we didn't use any kind of puller or anything else. we did use a big *** hammer to remove the pinion itself though.

Got it all replaced. Air hammer did the trick. Now I'm just wondering if the seal didn't seat right. When I drove home and looked, there was a bead of fluid running from the yoke seal area about halfway down the diff.
It's been sitting in my driveway for several hours and no drip, but my driveway is inclined. I'm afraid to back it in because I might come out tomorrow to a huge puddle of fluid

Maybe it was just from the initial break in of the seal.

Did you put teflon paste sealant on the splines of the new yoke?

I didn't do that on either of the ones I did either. Both still sealed up. I bet it leak a little before the first warm up bead in drive.
