shouldn't have to change back lash or anything. if you don't find it by the time i get home i'll look in my book. but there is a torque value to spin it. you crank the nut down and check the torque required to turn the yoke then tighten some more until you get it. just don't go over cause then you need a new crush sleeve. i just used an impact to tighten and checked it over and over as i went. i think the torque value is with axles removed though. it had two torques. one with diff installed and one with diff out. i'd leave the diff in and pull the axles just out enough to clear the diff.

OK, I am trying to swap the yoke. I pulled the DS, then the pinion nut and washer. I cannot get the yoke to slide out. I pryed and even went with a 3 jaw puller and it wasn't moving. What am I doing wrong here?

Isn't it just the seal and the splines holding on there at this point?

The crush sleeve is what you're fighting. Use a puller to get the yoke.

Well my next step is to put the jaw puller back on there and use an air gun to turn it. Is there supposed to be a considerable amount of resistance?

Then lets say I get the yoke off, is the new one going to be that hard to get back in? Or is there where you use the pinion nut and air gun as a press?

Once it lets go, it will come off easy. The new one will go together easy, and you'll be using the impact to crush the new sleeve. Go a little bit at a time, if you go too far, you'll need a new sleeve.

Put some Teflon sealing paste on the splints of the new yoke.

Try a SBC harmonic balancer puller instead of the 3 jaw.

All my puller was doing was eating away at the pinion. The yoke didn't move at all and I was using my impact gun on it. I had a good grip on the yoke, just wouldn't come off.

You mean this?

Just feed it into the bolt holes on the yoke?

I was using this:

Interesting. Yes, that's the puller I was talking about. Bolt it to the yoke & give it a shot if you have one.

Or, do you have an air chisel with a hammer bit? Get some tension on it, and go at it with that.

No chisel bit, but I do have a check book/debit card. I will run it to my DIY shop on Tuesday and see what I can get done. They have lots of tools and lifts. If that fails then I'm gonna drop it at a shop.
