The cooler the better. Without a Cooler i was running 200-209 degrees. With one i'm usually around 140.
Do u need 1? Yes, I don't think a tranny can be too cool. I agree w/. others. Get largest u can afford/ find/ fit & also tranny temp gauge. If stock I think they're a great idea, especially if towing or have a stall.

jerry"n.l.c", IDK if it slows u down when its hot, it certainly doesn't add to tranny longevity.

A cooler is cheap insurance.
How much is a stall? How much is a new tranny?

Don't chance it, give yourself piece of mind. Heat is #1 killer of trannies.

I removed my stock cooler and put the 40k in its place using the stock hard lines coupled to the rubber hoses provided in the kit. Keep the trans fluid run through the radiator though, it helps warm the tranny up when it's cold outside.

Do you have a DIC in your gmc? My NNBS silverado does. I fit does scroll thru your stiff and you will find your trans temp gauge

I would recommend the tru-cool 40K cooler as well. Like TxSilverado said i would just run this cooler by itself... its pretty big.

Here is mine

i have a 24000 i think. my trans temps usually get about 175-180 . but takes forever for it to get there. usually 30 min of driving , also the size of your converter IE 9.5'' wil run hotter than a larger 10.5 converter because of the fluid its tryin to push
