differences between 88-98 and 99-06 rear ends?

Default differences between 88-98 and 99-06 rear ends?

whats the differences between the two? reason i ask is came across a good deal on a auburn posi unit but its for a 8.5 88-98 silverado rear end and mines a 2000. sorry for noob question

carrier bearings are a diff size there is a conversion bearing to make it work tho
I found a thread about it with part numbers on here

the cover bolt threads in the older years are standard 5 1/16 the newer rears are metric M8x1.25-40mm length

ok thanks guys, reason i ask is found a auburn posi carrier for a dam,n good price but its for a 88-98
