Default detroit locker

how does everyone feel about the detroit locker? I am rebuilding my rear end after the g80 blew up and Im not putting another one of those **** boxes back in it. I have been looking at the detroits cause I hear they are strong and I can get one cheap through my work (its great working at a performance parts dealer and getting dealer cost ). So should I go for it?

They are the toughest diff around IMO. You just have to get used to the noise, which would probably get annoying in a daily driver.

I have a detriot in mine i don't notice much noise at all just coast through tight corners and it won't churp the tires or make any other noises. also its lived through me doing many burnouts and hammering the hell out of it off road and this was all with a set of 36in tires on the truck that wiegh in at close to a 120lb. so i say do it.

I'd rather get an Eaton....wait, I did. Non-G80 of course.

This sucks, I emailed Detroit and they told me I have to buy a non posi, open carrier for the locker to work. Thats gonna be harder to find around here than a whole damn rear end and even if I find another rear end its probably gonna have that **** box g80 in it thats gonna blow up again.

New open cases can be bought for under $100, but I still wouldnt do it.

I'd go for it but since you have the bigblock don't you have the 11.5" aam axle if so i thought detriot didn't make a locker for one of these axles as of yet.

Disregard my other post. I thought you had a 8.5, but that was a different thread. The 10.5 locker is very tough. You do have to use a stock case, but the stock cases on the 10.5 are a pretty strong 2 piece case with 4 spider gears. They arent that cheap, but can be had reasonably. A Randy's or national drivetrain, etc should have that case in stock.
