Default Dana 60 swap

I do believe if this 10 bolt goes, I'll be installing a Dana 60 rear I have at home along with an aftermarket locker and gears. I know these things are super strong and will take some major torture. They are used in some very high horsepower applications. I know Strange and Moser and others make axles for them.

I'll most likely need to have this one made to fit the track width I have so aftermarket axles will probably be installed as well. I know this may sound like some major overkill in a small block street/strip truck but once this 10B goes, its time to step up. Not to mention I dont already have a 14B laying around like I do a D60. What are you guy's thoughs on a swap like this? What all problems do you think I'd encounter (besides brakes) Just trying to get an idea for when this thinig finally does kick the bucket on me.

Edit: There will be more cubes in this thing by then too so its not like I'm trying to build a tank drivetrain behind a mo-ped

I think it's a great idea, and other than brakes, you might have to move the spring perch locations. That's not a big deal either considering you're going change the width. You'll need to have your driveshaft modified though, for both length and big u-joint the D60 uses.

I'll probably be going with a 4 link and either coilovers or air as well when I do this... I want it RIGHT.... no more traction bars BS and constant pitiful 60' times.... slap the slicks on, tweak the setup, and go to the track....

A cool thing to do, and I'm not sure how much this would cost for this application, is what I did for my Camaro. When I put a 9" in it, they machined the axle housing ends to accept the factory brake bolt pattern (1969 drum brakes). So I'll I had to do is bolt them right back on, and I can run any aftermarket set of brakes originally designed for my car. The company that did these CNC'd a **** ton of them for my application so it was cost effective. I'm not sure what a one off set would cost, but it's worth a shot to call around.

that sounds like an awesome idea!! our brake mounts arent hard to drplicate either probably, the caliper mounts and everything look pretty simple!

-I have another 10B rear around here so I guess I could make a pattern off that to send them???

EDIT: Nevermind this would make the rear 5 lugs instead of 6.....

IMO I would go with a big bearing 9 in, Parts are cheap and readily available, that way you can get the big axles with no tapper. For brakes, this is what I am planning on using on my project car with a 9 in. you get some caliper brackets off ebay for like $99 or if you can make them then it is even cheaper. Then go buy some 1985 Cadilac seville rotors and calibers. With this setup you can run 15 wheels all day long with no problems and the calipers have a built in E-Brake that uses a cable, like our trucks... Just a thought. Here is a write up on the brake swap.
