Thats a great price, glad you found somewhere reasonably priced. I hope they dont try to jack the price up at all after telling you they would do it for 125!

I charge $95.00 an hour at my shop. Most dealers are in this range. Some out here in So Cal are up to $125.00. I have personally removed over 1000 truck transmissions. Doing the job complete and correct is not realistic in 2 hours. Yes when you do it everyday it can be done quickly and efficiently, but within reason. I do not charge for the time that it really takes. I charge for the whole job. At my shop I would charge 6-7 hours labor to R&R the transmission. I think there is a misunderstanding here. Can't wait to see how this all unfolds....

Well the guy that told me the 125 was just the service writer so maybe he doesn't know what he is talking about?

im starting to think the dealership is lost on what they are talking about the more i think about it. $125 for a converter swap, but $180 to just drain and replace my trans fluid and not replace the filter???

The best trans shop in town wants 400 for converter and 45 for vette servo. Im going with them as they are trustworthy

bro, why dont you drop the pan and change the oil yourself? $180? It takes very simple tools and its not hard at all, hardest thing is gettin that damn shift linkage out, in which case you need a torx bit.

I understand not wanting to tackle a tranny drop if you dont have the tools/knowledge, but for about $50 in tools (if that depending on what brand you get) you could have that fluid changed by yourself and have the satisfaction and piece of mind knowing its right. Hell I'll even give you my cell number and walk you through it!

This would be a good place to start if you want to start doin things yourself.....

if they have to drop the pan to drain the fluid they are already half way done pulling the tranny, driveshaft, a few bolts and some electrical connectors and thats it.

2 hours isnt unrealistic IMO, the last tranny i changed in my truck took me 4 hours by myself and that included a break to eat and 45 minutes trying to line up the dip stick tube.

have them do it, if you are worried that they wont put your converter in stand outside the bay door and watch them or somewhere you can keep an eye on them, or like said above pull the inspection cover and check it.
