Default Converter question

I searched btw, didnt really find what I was looking for.

Anyway Ive got a 222/224 cam in my 5.3, its a rcsb 4x4 lowered, gunna be running 275/55-17s I think, maybe a 275/60 tho. Its got 3.73 gears and a 4l60e of course.

So I want to get a torque converter before too long and would like to get an idea of what Im looking for first. I dont tow/haul anything but myself and maybe a passenger. The truck is my dd, but I only drive it a few times a week because I walk to work. Truck will just be dd'd and probably to the track occasionally.

So I was looking for some suggestions on what rpm range converter I should be looking at and what brands to look at, I was thinking PI and Yank but Yank is pretty much just 3200 or 3600 and I dont know if 32 is high enough for me and I think 36 is too high but Im not sure so...

Thanks in advance.

3200 would be fine, but the 3600 would be more fun

The looseness will be in the str. A 3200 with a 2.5 str will be tighter than a 3200 with a 2.1 str. However, the 2.1 will be more effecient in the upper rpms.

Ah, so the yank 3200 has a 2.7 str, and the 3000 has a 2.21, the 3200 will feel looser or about the same or what compared to the tt3000?

Yours probably stalls higher because of the boost doesnt it? I doubt this truck will ever see anything but n/a.

Thats another thing Im kind of worried about is it just making smoke and going no where with a big stall.

With the combination of a 5.3, 222/224 cam with 3.73 gears in a 4x4, IMO the SS3200 from Yank or equivalent would be a good fit. The lower STR will not hit as hard and still have good effeciency. Now, if you said you go to the track every weekend and invested in the transmission, then make the jump to the 3600 or more.

Do you have a transmission oil cooler now or have done anything to the transmission?

When I pull the trans to put the stall in it'll get servos and a boost valve. And Im putting on a big trans cooler in the next week or so.

If you are doing the work yourself, then you can test the SS3200 for feel. If it is not to your liking, you can sell it on here pretty quick.
