Default converter install

can someone tell me the right way to install a converter in a 60e because i dont want to mess up the pump. i have read put som atf fluid in converter put in tranny spin and twist and should here it click 2 time and there should be a 1" of space from lugs on converter to face of bell housing. then i have read to use vise grips to hold it in place while you place it in the truck how do you do this?

I've installed a couple here recently. I didn't hold it in place either time. No problems. Just raise the tranny up slow and check it again right before you bolt it up. Pull it up slow with the bolts and verify clearance in the access hole by spinning the verter. Should be no problem.

it should "click" into place twice. if you feel it click and slide up twice then it should be fully engaging the front pump.

always put a little trans fluid in the converter before you install it. atleast 1/2 a quart, a full quart is better if you can get that much in it. lots of moving parts inside the converter need fluid for lubrication. CHIP

sounds like youre on the right path
just measure the bellhousing to pads
and make sure theres at least an inch there

this should be pretty easy with your truck sitting as high as it does

the whole vice grip thing just makes sure the TC doesnt come forward
I didnt bother with it
do like Ky said and double check it right before
you mount it to the block

is this the stock verter?

First time I managed to get it to rest on a floor jack and lifted it up. Took a long time. Second time I man handled it. It didn't want to line up like you said. I got it to just sit on the end of the shaft without falling (other end resting on a rearward cross member) and slowly jacked up the transmission with a floor jack, getting it a little more on the shaft at a time, until they lined up and slide it home. Really a contortion, using my leg to work the jack while sliding on the x-fer case with my hands. Took like 5 min. this time. You may also need to put the trans in neutral and spin the shaft to get the splines to line up. It can be a PITA.
