Default Converter break-in?

Is it 250 or 500 miles on the break-in? Then what, just change the fluid? Thanks.

Drive it like you stole it!

I just put mine thru a bunch of lock-unlock cycles and changed the fluid at 10K but it probably wasn't necessary.

I would check with the manufacture. Normally I believe you want to cycle the lock up clutch about twenty to thirty times and then enjoy.

Good idea Vince. Until then, I'm gonna baby it around town for a least 200 miles. Anybody know the procedures for the yanks?

every converter company that ive talked to says yanks break in procedure is rediculous. with my new fuddle and performabuilt tranny i made about 3 rounds around the block checking the tranny fluie every lap. after the tranny fluid didnt move at all at about 6 miles i romped it like i was runnin from the POPO. ive driven it the same since then

I found an old link about the yank break-in. It said to drive normal the first 150 miles and then do whatever. Makes sense to me! I guess I'm over-protective of my truck! lol

I've always figured a transmission is either going to work, or not. Friction materials should really be given an opportunity to seat and bed in. I sure didn't do that with the 4L80-E after spending a MONTH building it from scratch myself.

I took this video the first day, the truck didn't even have exhaust installed or the shiftpoints tuned. http://bertok.us/pics/brakestand.mpg
(Sadly it was just a cheap old still camera, no sound.)

I'm not going to say "no break-in needed" but I can say it needs nothing like breaking in a fresh engine build.

when i put my built 60 and 3800 PI converter in last year. i went out drove about 2 miles and did a few launches.. i never had an issue. like stated its going ot break or its not. its going to break at 5 miles or 5000miles. its goignto break. so try and break it early if it doesnt then your fine. cause you would hate to have your warrenty up then it breaks... but no break in, maybe 2 miles if that
