Default converter

I was driving down the hiway and all of the sudden it felt like my converter started unlocking/locking several times until I let off the gas. Transmission and converter have no more than 200 miles. If I put it in 3rd and the converter locks it srats steady. Just in od and after cruising for around 10 minutes it starts doing this. Transmission fluid is full and doesn't slip at all. Any help would be appreciated

The shim kit that comes woth the circle d converters,, I've never used and never had problems the last 4 years running his converters. Now I'm wondering if the newly rebuilt trans is setup different somehow and I need to shim the converter further into the transmission. How do you properly check clearances to shim between the converter and fltwheel

We send the shim kit just in case you need them. We also try to build our converters at the max height to avoid the need for shims. So it needs to be checked... We like to see about .125". But that does not sound like your problem. I suggest getting a scanner on it and watch converter slip and apply to see what is going on. But since it works in 3rd ok, hopefully just an electrical problem.

I had a similar issue when I put in a factory certa 4l60e. Once the tranny reached about 195 degrees and was steady on the throttle the converter would lock and unlock to were it almost felt like the engine was surging. Even though it was under warranty the dealership wouldn't even look into it saying it was my tune. The tune was modified but it was the same as it was with the original 4l60e and it never did it.

I was never able to eliminate it completely but one by one I started coping back the factory transmission tables and testing it and when I put the Positive Force Current Table back to factory it dramatically reduced its occurrence until the tranny reached ~195 degrees.
