Default Clunk in reverse

My truck makes a clunk when I shift to reverse. The u-joints look good and the noise appears to be coming from my transfer case output to my front diff. I spun it by hand and there is some slop.

Is this a common problem, and how difficult of a fix is this?

Commone GM problem. They will tell you it is normal due to the excessive gear lash/play that GM uses in there transfer case and differentials.
My brothers 01 Z71 does the same thing.
He has since then had the tranny and transfer case rebuilt at 110,000mi.
It doesn't do it as much now, but it is still a little noticeable.

Mine does it too, especially when up on a slight hill.

Yep, mine has done it since brand new. Typical GM problem...I wouldn't worry about it.

Why not worry about it?
I placed 12 pumps of grease in my driveshaft. My clunking went away.
Though if you have a one piece driveshaft your out of luck.

I wish it weren't there. I will try sticking some grease to perhaps dull some of the sound.

Thanks for the responses.
