Default Can you explain?

How a converter locks up and when?
I understand the basics, but was hoping i could understand better.

My TT3000 locks up when i am doing over 45, steady throttle cruising. It does not lock up when in any other gear, such as in city driving in 3rd.
Normal?

Will driving in 3rd. cause excessive wear on the converter and generate excess heat?
My cooler seems to barely get warm when i check it by hand after a 15 minute drive, dont have a gauge yet.

Your converter locks up using a solenoid programed for a certain speed in the PCM. Who did the tune? I think I have mine set to lock up at 45 or 50 in OD, and I think at a certain TPS in 3rd. Id have to check though, I may have it set to only lock up in OD. If you want some more specific info on mine, PM me, Ill send you a copy of my tune to see what Im talking about.

I thought the locking was for less gas consumption when not racing. But this is my first converter, I'm still new.

It does lock up to increase milage, but if it locks up too early, its hard on the tranny. It is suposed to lock up while in a cruise mode, not just when you arent racing.

I finally payed attention today and it seems mine locks up right at 50 Mph on the hwy....
