Default Can someone clarify the 80E/AWD swap for me???

Ok so i've tried doing some research on this and it has just confused me. Now I have seen that theres a kit to do this but its also $1000 which is out of my price range for now BUT ive also read that all you need is an adaptor, input shaft and a Syclone/Typhoon T-case but I havent found a lot of info on that. So what I want to know is what can I do and also what would the power limit be for this? I just started a good job and would finally like to buy a V8 Rainier in the spring so my wheels have been turning on a turbo.

What are you swapping an 80E into?

I'm swapping into a 2000 silverado 5.3.

You're going to need an 80E and the correct housing adapter. The housing that came on it from a 4wd application is the correct one.

You're also going to need the correct transfer case. The transfer case I'm going with is one out of the SS trucks. It can also be found in an early 2000's Escalade or Denali and it's called an NP149. The NP stands for New Process. It's sometimes referred to as a NG149.

That will bolt up to the 4x4 80E housing, but the splines on the output shaft are incorrect. To solve this you cam have the output shaft modified. A modified transmission output shaft is prone to failure. A better solution is to change the transfer case input shaft.

These are sold by EAD performance. Or by a fellow named "time2kill" on silverado SS. Here's a link:

4l80e Nvg-149 32 Spline Input Gear Adapter - SilveradoSS.com

These sell for 325.00 + 80.00 core.

After that you have to modify the driveshafts. The driveshaft modifications vary depending on various application. Standard cab vs extended cab, etc.

Now you can lock your front axle into 4hi and leave it that way, or you can source a front end from an Escalade, Denali, or SS. The Escalade and Denali will have 3.73's in it and the SS will have 4.10's. Keep this in mind when selecting the appellate front end.

Also, don't forget you'll need an 80E flywheel to bolt up the 6 bolt torque converter.

Any questions?
