can i just cut down 2wd output shaft?

instead of tearing down my 4l80e can i just cut down my 2wd output shaft to the 4wd length ?

I'm going to say no. I have looked at it in the past and thought it would not work for some reason. I honestly can't remember why but I believe it was an issue with the splines.
