Can a 4l60E live in a GMT800 2WD Tahoe behind a cammed LQ9?
I have a 2001 Tahoe LT 2WD that I would like to swap a LQ9 into. I plan on camming the LQ9 with Texas Speed's 216/220 .600 112lsa. I will also install Sonnax's shift kit at the same time. I want the tune to shift at 5500rpm. MAYBE 6000rpm MAX!
The Tahoe currently has 4.88 Richmonds, a Detroit Locker on 31.65-inch tires. Yes. I did type 4.88 with a 31" tire. The truck never sees more than 55 mph cruising. I also have an AEM BruteForce knock-off & Pacesetter 1.75" longtubes.
Can these 4L60E transmissions live in this application? What if I do a performance rebuild whenever this one fails? I don't launch the truck. I usually roll into it. If I do race it, I manually shift it. I understand that is better for the transmission. I don't let the tranny do 4th - 2nd downshifts. I do tow a small car trailer every so often. Maybe 6000lbs max.

As the l60 is a tuff trans it is usually used in lighter GVW performance application. I would suggest to getting a l80 ready when she handgernades on you. Probably will fall to TQ pushing fragments through pump & drum.

AGREED!!! Killed 2 4L60Es, one built to 4L65E specs behind an old 350. Cammed 6.0 will kill a 60E easily

I just built a 80e for my tow toy.... $2400.00 .. All electric upgrades ... Double disk stock stall TQ.. Heavier drum and pump mods. And thermal switched cooler. I put my trans through more than any street/strip racer does. Hauling up to 19k pounds in Alaska and the lower 48 states. Raced Chevy pro stock for 12 years. 69z LT1 +++++ mods. Lived next door to big daddy Don Gartlet.

Sounds beefy. I'm slowly getting my 80e swap to work for road trips. Don't think I'll make it to AK. I grew up in Anchorage and would to love to attempt that drive, great scenery!

If you get it built properly it will live but you're still at the mercy of the weak/small hard parts compared to the 80e. But the 60e will feel more "athletic" than the 4l80e. I would always try and keep the 60e if possible while n/a simply because you aren't working with that much power and you want to maximize what's going to the ground
