Default Buying a used 4l80

I'm looking at doing the swap sometime soon, and have a few quotes for used transmissions. What do you guys think is a safe mileage to use without tearing down? I guess I want to know how long they typically last. Second, what should I be paying for a used tranny with about 150k? Thanks for the help!

Used 4L80Es in good condition go for about $300-$800 depending on mileage and year. Pull the pan before buying it and look at the fluid and look for debris in the pan. If there are metal bits you probably don't want to buy it.

For reference, I bought my 99 80E with 70K miles on it for $600, clear fluid, no debris in the pan. I did tear it down to build it up with better parts and the insides were immaculate.
