Just for ***** and giggles are your rear leaf springs touching the tires? I had a problem with my rear leafs fanning out and contacting the tire.

The tires are just 245/75R16's on an aftermarket set of 16X8's on the truck that stick out further than the stock PYO's, The tires are nowhere near any of the suspension, front or rear.

Bah. Now you can smell anytime you drive it, so it's not 4X4 related. It could be grease burning too, or maybe it's some kind of slop I drove through making the smell. The truck needs to be hosed off underneath, which is my norm everytime I get home. The roads are just sloppy from all the snow. I did find my passenger axle seal on the rear diff is leaking so I guess I have an unwanted project anyhow. It drives fine still. Just now the good old won't shift out of park solenoid shift interlock crap when it's cold. I knew that was coming though.

Well, this post is very old and you ought to make your own thread on the subject. However, my first guess would be you are pushing fluid out the front diff vent or the fill port has failed (big PCV lid that screws in the side of the diff). When the diff fluid comes out it can hit the exhaust and make the burning rubber smell.

My 05 doesn't do it I have noticed anymore......haven't driven the truck in 3 or 4 months though..... basically since snow hit the ground because I don't want it to get dirty lol. It's just a beater and a good garage ornament. It says up top I had 70000 miles when I posted this. Well the truck has 175000 miles on it and I actually swapped the entire front differential along the way when a shop did axle seals shortly after this post and the original ended up piling up with just a little over 100000 miles on it. I went to 4.10 gears ( from the 3.73's) and never looked back. Have 75000 miles on my replacement diff ( bought from a wrecker) and my detroit locker setup in the rear.... works excellent.

Honestly was the burning the original diff..... maybe. It leaked a wee bit but never anything more than the usual Chevy annoyance and never pushed out the breather. Hell the diff in there now leaks about as much as the old one did... just enough to see it's wet around the seals.

Just drive it and ignore it...... for ***** and giggles.... my 2015 Silverado emits a burning rubber smell from the front of the truck occasionally..... both my 2013 F150's did it..... actually almost any vehicle I have ever had does it.
