sounds like if i wanna have a solid tranny i better go 80e, that being said whats a good rebuild for them, TCI? Hughes?, and what can i expect cost wise with the hole swap?
Still surprised that performabuilt offers a 2 year warranty with as many people frying 60s

and what years can i get away with using on the 80e

lol @ all of you 80e bandwagoners... A 60e built by the right person, the right way will hold perfectly fine. My tranny guy, Kenny McCarol 1320 transmissions of McAlister, OK. is running a built 60e in his AWD 408 truck, running 11's on motor and he's about to slap a 91mm turbo on it and is still keeping the 60e... I've got a 60e in my truck that he built and I abuse the HELL out of it, EVERY DAY, on the STREET, and I'm making around 500 on spray with STICKY tires... It's never given me an ounce of trouble... All you people that are burnt on 60e's, you are only burnt because someone burnt you on your "build". Kenny has told me of NUMEROUS "BUILT" 60e's that were supposedly built with the best of parts and rated to hold big numbers that he's opened up and they utilized stock and less than "built" parts in them... Take your 60e to a real builder and you'll never have another problem with it.

only problem with that is the price.. look at the level 7 60E from FLT $3300?
junkyard 80E 200-1000, stall 800-1200, driveshaft mods 100, ready to ride.
I have $900 in my transmission and everything needed to make it work.. last time i checked a built 60E is alot more than that.
plus i wanted the peice of mind for towing.. bet you a 60E 4th gear wont hold up to a 12,000 load with good torque.

Maybe for a light single cab 1/2 ton truck but for the heavier truck, I read that 60e internally is not strong enough from gears to shaft, not only clutches.

I am going FI soon and would love to keep 4L65E if it can be built to survive in my 4700 Ibs 1/2 ton truck under 600rwhp FI.

I'm sure I'd have gone through a built 60e in that time and would have broke some hard parts. How do I know this? Because it happened with my last 60e.

I'm having the 80e rebuilt properly now and will have a ton of confidence afterwards. The 80e is a phenomenal transmission. Go with it.
ok, mental note. Start looking for a 80e and sit on it...

Ok... now I'm all .... threads like this confuse the unknowledged!!

I'd say even though people tell you the 60e isn't worth it, if he is willing to warranty it for 2 yrs you can't go wrong. Just make sure the warranty covers EVERYTHING.

my opinion.

I dont know anyone on here with a rpm built 60e..there known for there 60e's, the hold the record with the fastest 60e. I am running rpm's level 5. They swore up and down that this tranny would last, gave me a good warrenty and said they'd do a level 5 rebuild for 600 Bucks for the life time of my trans. And that includes any updates that come up over the years.

I'm running a Performabuilt Level 3 60E in my truck. 5300lbs. Held up great making about 420whp NA. Now I'm procharged and its still doing great. But I am gathering parts for a 80E swap.

Stoicho315, there are several threads on whats needed for the swap. can be done for about 1K-3K depending on how you do it.

Keep telling yourself that. Do a few 4-2 wot runs and see how long it last. I want a tranny I can drive how I want for 10s of thousands of miles. Not something that has to be rebuilt every few thousand miles. Put an 80e in and you can forget about it. With a 60e, you will always be wondering when will it let go.
