Default broke my first transmisions, need help !

So after the mechanic install the diff he calls me with bad news. He tells me that the trany doesn't want to apply on drive that you have to put it on 1lo and shift it your self. So I need to rebuild it and I was wondering what parts should I buy to build it stronger, my engine is stock for now. i was thinking a torque converter don't now what brand, some super servos, transmission shift kit that about it. I was wondering on making my truck manual because there a local trans am that there parting out and it got a t 56 and there selling it for 1,500 but it is a lt1 car, I found a 4l60 out of a 2008 sierra with 3,000 miles for 1,000 and the other option I was considering is, trying to fin the new 6speed automatic from the new trucks. Those are my options but Also with money i spend on buying those tranys i can built the one i broke pretty good s wath to you guy think,

Putting the 6 speed will be difficult and expensive. I don't remember if they have electronics for it yet.

My suggestion is.. unless your mechanic is very experienced with the 4l60e's go somewhere that knows whats up. It will cost you less in the long run.

my mechanic used to work at gm dealers has a mechanic and a lot of people take gm car to him every time I go there he got a different gm car most of them with the 4l60e or 4l65e he know what he doing. My truck is a 2003 gmc sierra ext cab with 5.3 it is lowered 4/7 and some bolt ons like shorty headers, hyperthech (soon to be dyno tune), flowmaster super 40, cats deleted, e fans, tru tracks with 4.10 gears. The ting is that know that I broke the trany, I want to make it better and prepared for a future cam, I was thinking puting in a stall some were in the 2600 to 3000 range, super servos, sift kit and a rebuild . So any suggestions would be appreciated thanks!
