Default Body lift

Ok I just wanted to know whats the difference between a 1500 and a 2500 HD what I mean about that is the lift. I know they come with a body lift but why can't you buy a body lift for a 1500 and it look like a 2500 I mean like the hitch in the back I would not like to see the gap between the bumper and the receiver. Are the hitches different could I just buy a receiver for a 2500 or modify mine. I have a GMC 2003 Z71 I have allready put the ford keys and add-a-leaf but I would like it to be a little higher without spending $1500 on a suspension lift, which I do want in the future but just don't have the cash right now.
