I was running the stock type locker which is the weak link as of right now. How is the driveability with the detroit locker?

I'd recommend Detroit TruTrac

i like it. you get use to the clunks to where you don't even notice it. only problem i had in my silverado was it would chirp the tire in a turn if you were giving it any gas. but on easy turns its quiet. my tahoe weighs a good bit in the back so it's not as bad. but i love the thing. a trutac is good too but if you break an axle like i did you are stuck were you are. your not moving the thing at all. and with disc brakes the axle won't come out right away. so you can limp it on a trailor or or off the track.

Thanks for the feedback. I am a little torn as it would be much easier to put a locker in the rear end I have now but the added insurance of the 14 bolt would be nice. Have you ever thought about getting custom axles? I wonder how much power these 10 bolts could handle with a top notch gear set, custom axles and detroit locker?

aftermarket axle are only like $150 maybe less. i just know with my wieght i really need the 14bolt. i think the 10bolt in a light truck could go along way. with axles, the locker and the girdle should make it pretty stout. however there is a 14bolt for sale in the for sale section. its a 14bolt 6 lug drum axle.

the trutrac is a very nice peice. i've installed two of them into friend's trucks. they both really like them and they are cheaper than the c-locker. when i bought my locker i had plans for my silverado to be lifted and go off road. it burnt so i took the locker out and when i bought the tahoe i threw it in there. It was the first mod i did. either way you go trutac or c-locker its gonna be strong.
