Better stop to go acceleration?
#1
I kick myself for not really looking into the difference in the motors at the time that I picked up my truck a few years back. But it is what is now. Only complaint I have is the stop to 40-50mph acceleration. Seems like every other Silverado passes me from a stand point! Not racing, just your everday stop and go driving. I will say this, once I do get to the higher speeds, like on the highway-it responds very well.
Shiftkit, higher stall convter, Locker, or (fill in the blank)? From the list I mentioned, What would be the best upgrade to start off with to get a better take off acceleration for this slow to go daily driver?
2000 Silv. ECSB, 4.8L, 2WD, Besides Intake, muffler, and Hyprtch tuner, it's stock-

4.8 is a pitiful motor. I'd probably shoot myself before daily driving a 4.8 in an ext. cab again.
Your best, most cost effective modification for what you want will be a 6.0L longblock swap. It's a direct swap in place of the 4.8 and re-uses everything off the 4.8.
If that's not an option for you, your next best bet is some 4.10 gears. The torque converter will also increase your torque multiplication and put you higher in the powerband faster like the gears will.
Tune, headers, muffler really are all way down the list as far as part throttle power goes. Those will help much more at wide open throttle.

I agree with GMCtrk about the very mild gains.... I really only did them to clean up the engine bay. And the stock fan clutch was really loud.
6.0 is what this guy should do. If he does gears, he'll be 700 bucks deep and way too close to the cost of a 6.0 swap to ignore it IMO.

If sticking with the 4.8, go with gears, converter, and tuning. I'd also get a shift kit and trans cooler along with the converter. Of course the 6.0 will provide the most noticeable SOTP and ET gains, but if an engine swap isn't in your future, there are still things that you can do to help out the ol 4.8. There are and have been plenty of guys around here who have been able to make their 4.8's run...I prefer more cubes myself though
As for efans, they wouldn't be at the top of my list as far as mods go. I have 05 fans which I'm very happy with, and I'm sure that they helped something, but it was barely noticeable...I felt more SOTP gains from my StainlessWorks LT's and catted y-pipe

Thanks everyone. 6.0 swap does sound good, just worried the rest of the truck will fall apart with the extra added power!! I'll do some homework, and compare the pricing of changing to a 6.0L or just adding gears, converter, and tuning.
Thanks

I really don't understand how anyone could argue that a 2-3 tenth gain in the quarter mile from e-fans is a waste. Even part throttle you should notice a big difference as your no longer turning a 4lb weight at the front of your motor.
