Default best 4l80e replacement?

ok, to my amazement the 4l80e in my 3/4 ton Burb has broken something and will have to be replaced. after replacing two 60's in half ton trucks, i specifically made sure to get the 80 to hopefully avoid the same issue. with only a blackbear tune, i didn't think the 8.1 would break the trans but oh well. don't know how it was used before i bought it for the first 65K of it's life. now has about 80K.

anyhow, sources for best heavy duty replacement? don't have 3 grand to spend on one, but would like a beefed up version from stock while I'm having to do it. gotta have a heck of a good warranty though.

have it rebuilt from one of the sponsors, or send it off to Vince B, or Gilbert at Ace Racing

I would just have it rebuilt to stock specs and put in a aftermarket converter that will be stronger then the stocker.. i would also do a shift kit (the transgo is pretty popular) and have your shift firmness set to stock pressures in your tune.. then the true cool 40k

What's it doing?

Being a 4x4 are you sure it isn't a transfer case failure?

Jake's, yes pretty sure it's a hard part broken inside the case. friend who is a factory trained mechanic put it on the lift and it def has broken metal flopping around in the middle of the case. just hasn't done enough damage yet to completely keep it from shifting and driving.

i have to have a good warranty, this is the family hauler and having it down is a problem if it is down for long. prob will go with a gm with good warranty, cause i have several buddies that are dealership parts guys and get get one with decent warranty for as good a price as possible. just can't afford to throw another 1000 with that cost to upgrade to one of these high performance company trannys. after all, it is a stock 8.1, and an 80 should handle it fine and i don't tow much.

I would look at buying one from any one of the sponsors.. I have one that needs to be rebuilt, from all the feedback, I have got, I can buy one built compete for about the same.. Doesn't make sense but..
