Question Is AWD a GM option for any 2003+ Silverado?

An article in the latest GM High Tech Performance talked about mods for a 2004 Silverado 1500. They stated that the test truck had AWD, it was not a SS. Stated that AWD was a $300 GM option. I thought AWD was only available for the SS truck. Can anyone confirm this? Any links that have info on it. Anyone know the option code? Thanks

I thought it was just for the SS and Denali packages. I remember hearing that the awd option for the Denali was removed for this year. Also, $300 sounds pretty cheap to me.

That is what I thought but I am looking at the article now. It states that it is a $300 GM option for the silverado, I assume for the sierra also. It says you also have to option to turn off the AWD back to 2wd for dyno tests.

AWD means 'ALL' the time - this is what differentiates it from 4WD. To have something that turns it back to a 2WD sounds a lot like a 4WD truck to me.

I could not find anything about an AWD option on the Silverado. I looked on Chevy and KBB

Just a AWD comment... supposedly the H2 is able to dyno with the front friveshaft removed and the transfer case set to 4 hi locked. The H2 doesn't have the viscuous coupling like the SS. If they offer a similar non-visuous t case it should work the same. I haven't tried it yet, myself.

I think what the author was referring to was "Autotrac 4WD". As far as I know, there is no AWD option on any Silverado (its standard on the SS) Maybe I am wrong though but I am pretty sure. Maybe if you play the option codes correct it can be done (i.e. modern day COPO!)

I've read the article, and the author was referring to Autotrac, which is NOT AWD. I think he just got his terminology mixed up.

Here is a thread the owner of that truck started. Read from post 58 on. It seems he just called the autotrac case an AWD case.

The SS and Denali are the only GM trucks with AWD at this time that I know of. Is the Escalade available with AWD?

Yes, it is. I know the EXT model is, anyway.

Yes, the Escalade had/has the AWD option.
