if adding a leaf gets too much height you can adjust with the shackle length
Dude you don't know what your talking about

I can see reason with both points. this could call for an easy experiment when I get it back, but as my truck was just DESTROYED in a T-bone type accident where an 85 yr old lady pulled out in front of me the other day I won't be able to try this for some time. adjuster looked at the damage and assesed it at $7,200 so they're fixing it. It will probably be in the shop a few months being re-newed from the cab forward.

Adding a leaf to a under axle kit will still gain height. Your increasing load capacity. Which will gain height. S10 are this way and adding a leaf increases height.

So before You go off trying school ppl and make them look dumb make sure you have a clue yourself

To address the original question, a 1" lift shackle should get the job done, no?

As for the Add-A-Leaf discussion, it should definitely add height to the truck. If you look them up, most advertise 1.5-2.5" of "lift" over stock. With the axle over the spring, yes, the thickness of the leaf will lower the truck, but the added arch of the AAL will lift it overall.

Let's say the leaf is advertised to lift a stock truck 1.5", and is 1/2" thick. On a truck with a flip kit, the thickness will lower it 1/2", but the net lift will still be somewhere in the neighborhood of .5" to 1" (depending on whether the manufacturer's lift measurement takes into account the thickness of the new leaf or not).

AALs ride like **** though, so I wouldn't bother.

souds like good info. any indication on how the AAL affects frame beaming/bed shake?

If I can find shackles, sounds like the way to go...

Personally, I've never driven a truck with an AAL, or a truck with the frame-beaming issue, but I would imagine it would exacerbate the issue. All you're doing is stiffening the leaf pack, which will make the un-loaded ride even worse.

Here's a 1" lift shackle: http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/item/DJM-SH1099

either the shackle hanger is flipped or the axle is flipped, adding a leaf will gain height no matter what you say, if it says +1.5 you will gain that much

Unless the stock leafs are sagging and forming a W shape, I don't see how adding a leaf will raise the truck if it has a flip kit.
