Wheel bearing grease will press inbetween the splines. It does take a lot of force though. I used the supplied GM grease in our suburban, then just used the plug and wheel bearing grease for two of our trucks. Its only been a few weeks but they're staying quiet so far.

No one has mentioned that once you have the shaft removed....DO NOT turn the steering wheel...breaks the clockspring thats located behind the airbag. They make a tool to keep the wheel from turning while the shaft is out, but as long as your careful, you wont need it. Ron

Now you tell me...too late. I spun the bitch like a top.
I put it all back together tonight and it works perfect so far, no sloppy feel anymore.

What you didnt know is that I stole your clockspring a few weeks ago, so you couldnt break yours!

Oh ya, I used high pressure moly grease used for industrial machine tools.
It should hold up pretty well in the conditions it will see.
I also greased the shaft where it connects to the steering box and put anti-seize on the pinch bolt since it was a bitch to crack loose, thought it was going to snap at first.

Heck I think I will just take mine to the dealer and call it a day. Its under warranty and no worries for me....
