i have a 2001 autotrac t-case at my disposal to trouble shoot my awd issues in my tahoe. now i know with these early model cases the front shaft spins all the time. i was manualy changing gears with a wrench and it only seems to have 4hi N and 4lo. so it would seem to me that there are no clutches or anything in this thing. i understand that the front diff disconnects to take power away from the front end. is that the only thing auto trac did on these older models was disconnect and reconnect the front diffs? can i stick this thing in my tahoe without the front shaft installed?
my front diff does not disconnect its like the silverado ss front diffs. i want to put this t-case in to see if my awd case is the reason why im not makeing full power at wot.

well i answered some of my own questions today. i took the t-case apart. it has a drum with a *** ton of clutch packs in it. they always seem to be be somewhat engaged but when the shift motor turns the forks all the way it aplies more pressure to them giving more drive to the front end.
