If you do or have a stall then i'd drill it out with the bigger drill bit. I drilled mine with the bigger bit and the shifts still feel kinda soft.

the 40K is a big one, expensive too. im not gonna tow anything and If I did it would only be a small motorcycle trailer or something like that. im lookin at the 18,000 gvw trucool one for around 50 bucks. Any better recommendations? my truck is a z71 with a factory hitch and tranny cooler, but the cooler looks tiny.

Brandon, if you drill the plate to the size in the instructions you'll get harsh shifts as this kit was designed for F bodys and the trucks are different. I did a lot of research before installing my HD2 and most people liked this for a DD:
1-2: don't drill at all
2-3: use a .093 drill
3-4: use a .110 drill

I installed mine with those specs and it shifts a bit firmer (compared to stock) at partial throttle, but at WOT you get fast & firm shifts without banging, the best of both worlds IMO. I don't think you'll want firmer shifts for a DD honestly.
with a stock converter?

I have a trucool 28K and its enough for me. I have a 3200 stall and shift kit and my trans temp stays at 160 degrees on hot summer days.
