I know you can run the shorter crank engines with the older nv3500 but seeing your trans is an 04, that would mean its set-up to run with the traditional length crank...so either your gonna have to change ur crank to a newer style, or get a shorter input shaft(which I assume would be the fix)

I havnt heard anyone doing swap with a newer trans and older motor but someone's gotta find out...I still have my old nv3500 so if you want the input shaft lemme know...

the 1st year or so, all 4.8 5 speed combos had this longer crank so when I went to put in my 05 t56, the input shaft bottomed out against the end of the crank, which I would imagine would happen to you as well...I had my input shaft milled down and got the trans bolted in, but the starter then wouldnt hit the ring gear seeing the 5 speed flywheel was recessed on where it met the crank to allow you to use the same starter as everyone else...my LS7 clutch wasnt recessed and the starter just missed it...

see if you can find out some info on changing the input shaft and if it will work in your case...if you need it just let me know

Damn, I was hoping for a simpler solution but thats how these things go. Hopefully I'll get a chance to throw everything together soon and be able to shed some light on this as well. The crank swap may just be my 'reason' for building a stroker.

I'll do my best to keep you guy's up to date on this issue incase someone else runs across it.

that doesnt make any sense. the crank is longer because it has the spacer built in.

there is a guy on here with a regular cab short bed 2wd that was a v6 5spd truck originally, he dropped in a long crank 6.0, and used a regular flyhweel and said it works fine.

Time to bring a thread back from the dead!

Fast forward 1.5 years..... It's still rockin the 4.0l, the 6.0L/nv3500 is sold and there's a new albeit similiar plan!

Here's what I've been up to:

Now I've got a company truck (truck can sit and get the v8 swapped in! no more DDing it) as well as:

03' 4.8L / Nv4500 / NP241, running 5.13's and 37's.

Flywheel is no longer an issue, just gotta tear the truck apart and git r done! Does any place sell just the header flanges or should I just take a manifold down to the local laser shop and get a couple cut out? I'm thinking stock manifolds aren't gonna fit/cut it on this build.

Well, they're there..... and they're free, lol. I was told that Fbody manifolds are tight fit to the block (better for swaps like this) but they don't flow as well as the newer truck manifolds so it looks like custom headers are the answer anyways!
