This could be a problem if it is an early-model case. Are both fluid lines in the front? 1996 and earlier are like this.

I'm not sure if this (pic) is the problem you are talking about, but this is one that I know of.

The earlier Trannys did not use a selector like the NBS, and they don't have the mounting bosses for the bolts to hold the selector.

well the trans i have is a 05 so i went to the dealer picked up the 60e selector and it fits perfect.my new problems are the steelbrided lines how do these hook up to the trans i know it sounds dumb but the fittings do not hook to the trans or the truck.and 2nd, the tci flywheel dont bolt to the stock 80e converter but it bolts to my 3000 tci for the 60e. I will see if it fits the fuddle when i get it. and 3rd what do i do with the drive shafts how short how long.
sorry for all the ?

1...cut the hard lines w/ a tubing cutter and the fittings should fit on the steel lines (the fittings i had needed to have a flare put into the steel lines) and to the braided lines.
2...was the flywheel for a 6.0L? .. mine was and bolted up to my 'verter just fine
3...you should be able to take in the old ones to a shop and ask them to make the front one 1.5" longer and the rear 1.5" shorter.

Good luck!

oh...you can either get the fittings (oddly enough, when looking for other parts, i've seen them for sale at pepboys) or relocate them from the other tranny...I have seen other post what thread that is and get an AN fitting to fit the braided hose to the tranny (I would make it a 90* fitting)...but the 1st option seams the best and quickest...but be sure you have 4 of the steel to braided fittings (2 for each line).
good luck
