8.5/8.6 gm 10bolt rear end gear compatibility

will gears out of a 8.6" rear end fit a 8.5" rear end? anything special that need to be done?

i have a chance to sell my 3.73s but they need them for a 8.5" rear. its a ring and pinion only.

I've been told that they will, but never done it myself. All hear say.

Yes they will, the 8.5 and 8.6 gears and diffs are the same sizes, the carrier bearings are the only difference.

The pinion shim needed might be totally different though. I encountered this when I went from 8.5" strange gears in my 8.6" rear end back to new style 8.6" GM gears.
